Yes, that is what this book is in essence. In the novel, Einstein had discovered the secrets of the so-called \"theory of everything\" which explains both relativity and quantum mechanics in one theory. Knowing that this knowlege could be misused, he hid the secret with only a few of his trusted fellow scientists. Now someone has discovered the secret and is trying to hunt down the secret. The hero of the story is a science historian who is chased by both a ruthless partiot-act U.S. government who believes he must not divulge the secret he has learned and a ruthless assasin, bent on recovering the secret at nearly any cost. The pacing of the novel is very good and reminds one of Michael Crichton. The science is interesting and somewhat thought provoking. However, at times, the author takes us to places we don;t want to go and makes the adventure a little too unpleasant. This is the author\'s fist novel, and I will definately look for his next books in the hope that he improves his craft. Alpert certainly has the potential. I must say that I really enjoyed the begining of this novel set in medieval Europe and described with a close attention to detail. The main character Baudolino is a consumate liar who is lucky enough to be adopted by Fredrick Barborrosa - the Holy Roman Emperor. Baudolino had adventures in France, Italy and Germany before setting off for the Holy Land and beyond - in search of the fabled kingdom of Prester John. The later part of the book rather dragged on as Baudolino and his comapinions spent time with the heretics who were the denisens of Christian mythology - people with their heads in thX-Powered-By and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
